In this edition of Proof for the Paranormal, the second part on the Poltergeist phenomenon, we take to a discussion in “Academic Parapsychology vs. Field Research”. I interview Professor Emeritus Dr. Dick Bierman, theoretical physicist, who also has a great interest in anomalous phenomena such as presented in Parapsychology andwhas published many research-articles on the subject.

But here too it tends to avoid the spirit- subject, mostly I assume, because of the inability of science, at the current state of technology and understanding, to falsify the survival hypothesis. This hypothesis states that our consciousness survives after death.

I find this somewhat strange and ask Dr. Dick Bierman for his 2 cents on the subject. He explains the view of academic science on the poltergeist topic, after which I interview him about this and about the stance academic Parapsychology takes towards most field research done on the topic.

Academic Parapsychology tends to see Poltergeist as a non-spirit-related phenomenon, because the phenomena are often bound to a person, often with psychological issues. They see it as a form of involuntary psychokinesis.

Aside from Poltergeist, AP distinguishes hauntings, which are bound to a place instead of a person.
